Here I have embedded our first Short Sequence. I hope you enjoy it! I worked with Jack Hunt and Maya Perry.
Evaluation on my Continuity Sequence
Our
sequence begins with a black screen with 2 seconds of audio which will
immediately grab the audience’s attention and set the atmosphere. We then establish
the first character and the setting. The package is essentially one of our main
props as we follow the action around the package; our intention was to focus on
the package so the audience could see the importance.
We then go into 3 Match on Action Shots, from
our character grabbing another package which has been well and truly hidden
from sight. This was done so the audience could follow the storyline and what
was happening with great focus and an idea.

Our
first Intertitle immediately cuts in from the action which is something we
intended to do as it broke away from the action and it is usually something you
see in some blockbuster action based movies. This is our title, Money.
It
then Fades back into the action with a Close Up of our first character closing
the door. Our feedback was helpful and it was suggested that we could have cut
back into the action to make it more effective. We chose to use another Match
on Action from our character walking out of the door, to closing it so the
audience will easily follow what’s happened and where the scene is taking place
now.
We
then proceeded to go into our first High Angle and our first and only Camera
Movement using a ‘Jib’. Using this, established more of the storyline and we
decided to use it for a smooth movement following the character.
We
decided to use and experiment with different camera shots, such as the POV shot
(Point of View). We decided to use this so the audience could see exactly what
the character was seeing at the same time. In our short sequence, you can see
the character looking in to the wrong package containing fake money.
We
also used Transitions, they were mostly used for changing from one
scene to another, for example we had a couple of Fades and even included a Wipe
Transition to get from one seen to another. We used a lot of Cuts to keep the action flowing because of the atmosphere of our project, it is quite captivating so we didn't want to mess around with anymore transitions that would distract the audience from the story. The Wipe was used to quickly introduce our next character as she is the first subject that we see when the Wipe is still happening.
I only wish we had received the feedback from our peers before we had completed the task as the feedback was very helpful and could have make our piece a lot better. At least we can take on board the feedback and make future projects a lot better. I am quite pleased with the outcome of our first project and I look forward to creating more pieces with more classmates. Some feedback included Cutting straight back into the action with our 1st Inter-title instead of fading back in.
I have enjoyed shooting this short sequence as I have got to know one more person in my class & it was a great laugh. I have liked learning about Shot Distances/Camera Movements etc before going off & shooting them - it's easier to learn about it in great detail this way & it's very handy. I especially enjoyed learning about Editing, making sure everything fits in together & even putting in Transitions to make it come together as a Short Sequence. This will definitely come in handy for what I will want to do in the future & I'm glad I'm taking this course.
Sam,
ReplyDeleteThis is a really nice first piece and you have used the key terminology from the first few weeks. Cn you please look your paragraph on transitions (which is a tad short) and clarify some of it. Specify that you used cuts - which are transitions and that you also included the others and then say specifically why they are used.
Good start,
