DEPICT ANALYSIS.

Enough – Tor Krisofferson

There are a lot of different elements to establish the Continuity System including:
·               Low Angle Camera Shots – Empowering our protagonist who is ashamed and fed up of his sons behaviour.
·               Close Ups – Establishing the characters
·               Shot Reverse Shot – Cutting to and from the Father getting hold of his son asking him “where is the knife”, cutting to the young boy who stabs him.
·               Match on Action – Protagonist (The Father) drinking his drink, getting up to stand, cuts to him standing and walking.
·               Eye Line Match – From the Father looking out of the camera shot, then it cuts to the picture of the schoolboy.

·               Doesn’t break the 180 Degree rule.
There isn’t any Establishing Shots to set the scene, we are throw into the action straight away and then introduced to our only inter-title and title of the short Enough.

The Narrative Structure for this short starts with both our protagonist & the antagonists, cross cutting between two scenes. The attack taking place some time before the middle aged man stands up to do something about this situation. We realise that our protagonist has encountered this gang before and quickly noticing the close up of a young schoolboy, the audience can quickly assume that the young boy is unfortunately involved with this gang. The Structure of the piece looks like this:

I have labelled the Gang, the Antagonists because even though his son was pretty distraught about his father being stabbed, the gang did nothing but try to prevent our Hero.

Identification
We begin with an Extreme Close Up of our Protagonist’s eye, Cross Cutting to the gang then cutting back to him in a Close Up. This connotes his facial expressions so that we can see how he is feeling and whether we empathise/sympathise with him. He looks tense, disappointed, irritated and slightly scared.

·               Reaction Shot – After the Father has been stabbed, he looks at his son, it pans to the right and his son’s face is plastered on the screen and it’s extremely upsetting. We immediately sympathise with the character as he shouts “Dad!” cradling his father. We knew that the son had lost his father with the Low Angle, looking up at him.

From the whole piece, I was in Suspense as we were immediately watching a “Gritty, hard hitting and shocking” 90 second clip, from the very beginning. Throughout the clip, we have a lot of Low Angles to show our Protagonists empowerment, so we believe he may put a stop to what is corrupting his son. Not to mention that all of the shots were quickly edited together to show a quick pace, building up suspense. When he leaves his home, we see him pick up a Police Officers weapon, assuming he can defend himself. As he encounters his son, he begins to pick up the pace when he is walking, building up more suspense to wonder what he is going to do next.

Overall, I really enjoyed this piece. I found it very emotional even though I expected the twist. I liked the idea and unfortunately it was the sons actions which caused the death. I sympathised with the two leading characters.
