Today we got into our groups. I am working with Ed Shaw & Andy Davis. We first started going through our individual ideas & we couldn't agree on the one that we liked the most. Ed had an idea about normal lif with Chocolate Bars, eg, seeing a Double Decker bus go by but it actually being the Double Decker Chocolate bar. Andy had a romantic story in mind, but didn't get into much detail with it. To make everything fair we all decided just to make a completely new idea. We went through tons of silly & quite comical ideas such as:
- Standing in a cupboard for the whole time whilst the camera slowly zooms in - but it was only 1 shot, so it wouldn't work.
- Hands being in the picture, advertising a certain product & it ending up in a violent ending with one hand stabbing another.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend yesterday's lesson so I left Andy & Ed to take care of things during my absense. Today we thought of a Narrative Structure with help from Sean. This was needed for our piece to make it more interesting & to have something for the audience to follow. It was decided that we were going to do a love story. We have some character props/costume to distinguish them from each other. We made a small list of props that would easily be added to through the Pre Production stage.
We also started doing our Storyboards, writing what was in every scene & even beginning to illustrate them. We got into much more detail about the shots, what shot/length and what dialogue will be taking place.
I admit, I was thinking about this idea a lot more into detail before this lesson & I was really unsure on what we were going to do & I wasn't 100% on board with the idea. I informed Andy & Ed how I was feeling & they both reassured me & said that we could do it. It's out first project & we'll learn & ave fun whilst doing it. It has been very funny already, getting in detail with it & I'm looking forward to shooting something as interesting & unique as this.
18th October
Today we completed our Storyboard. Completely illustrated & finished! Andy & Ed went around the college grounds to look for a suitable locations to film our piece. They are currently filling in the Location Reece Form. During the time when they were looking around, I started and finished writing a brief script (on paper) that can easily be transferred onto the Computer. I also finished and started the Shot List & posted it on Blogger. We are all working together very well & I'm enjoying the project. We are trying to get as much done as possible so we start started filming ASAP!
Once again, I'm still not feeling 100% confident with the idea because I'm not sure I can reach the best grade that I want with it. But I will be co-operative & supportive, to try & like the idea that we are doing. Hopefully whilst we are filming, I'll have a little more confidence. We also decided that we would ask somebody else to play Mandy's hand, as I have Eczema on my hands & I am not confident with that being the main focus on camera.
21st October
Today we finished all of our paperwork!! We are going to start filming tomorrow & hopefully finish. Whilst Andy was writing out of Dialogue Script, I wrote out our Props List & organised who was going to bring in what. I also wrote the Risk Assessments and our Production Schedule. I'm glad our Pre Production stage is finally over & we can focus on bringing our idea's to life. Hopefully, Andy & Ed will bring in their Permission Forms as that is the only bit of paperwork that we have left. I'm excited for tomorrow. Ellie has kindly accepted the role of Mandy as she understands the discomfort I feel. Everything is ready for tomorrow! YAY.
22nd October
Unfortunately we didn't get to film today as none of us brought in our SD Cards and Andy didn't bring in his camera that we were planning on using. So instead, we began to 'Test Shoot', planning on what we are going to do for tomorrow's lesson where we will be prepared. Test Shooting really helped us as a group so we could establish Medium Shots, Close ups and Over The Shoulder Shots using hands. When we were doing the Storyboards we thought it would be difficult to do establish those kind of shots. We also took pictures of our locations, that will be uploaded later on. Hopefully, we will begin and finish filming tomorrow before the half term.
23rd October
Today we began filming our Disco Scenes that we are going to use. Unfortunately we were not able to finish today as Ellie was our Female Hand (Mandy) & she was busy teaching the people who were stuck or confused, which is no problem at all. I was beginning to get worried but Ellie has reassured us & said that we could have more time after the half term. THANK GOODNESS. I will continue to prepare & think about more that we can do during the half term. For next lesson, we will have Ellie to film Mandy's part & get it out of the way, so she won't have to worry about it & we won't have to either.
4th November
Unfortunately Ed wasn't here today so we didn't have our Dave character. We overcame this & asked our friend Jack Hunt to step in. We would have Ellie's assistance second lesson, so for the first lesson we thought we could shoot some of the scenes that she is not in & get them out of the way. Our main prop was a Disco Ball machine thing, which belonged to Sam Read which he had taken home for the half term. We didn't let him know that we would need it today, so we only assumed he would bring it. Easy mistake, no harm done. Luckily, we have more time to film tomorrow, which is what we plan to do. We can film with Ed & Andy but may have to wait until Thursday when we have Ellie in the lesson to play Mandy. So today we shot some of our footage & uploaded it onto the computer & editied the small amount that we had. Tomorrow, I want to shoot more footage with Ed & Andy but we will have to save the majority of it for Thursday when we have Ellie. I really hope we finish tomorrow so we can finish editing it all & finish our project.
5th November
Today we shot more footage. Specifically, the shots with Dave (Ed was here today, luckily!) & uploaded the footage onto the computer. We even had some extra's dancing in the background for one of our Disco Shots, thanks to Jack, Mark & Sean! For tomorrow's lesson, with Ellie, I hope to have completed our footage & uploaded them onto the computer. We are going to add dialogue by using Voice Over, which I also hope to get done as soon as possible. GETTING THERE, WOOHOOO!
6th November
We finished shooting! We had Ellie & we finally just got it all done. We haven't uploaded the footage as of yet because we ran over the lesson time & I didn't want to keep anyone waiting for learning! It's all on my SD Card waiting to be uploaded & edited, which is exactly what we plan to do tomorrow during the Double Blocks. We also need to add our Voice Over to the footage for our dialogue & add the audio, Disco music to accompany the scene.
7th November
Today we uploaded our footage onto the computer & began editing. We have come across a few problems shooting over 3 days. We were off schedule because we were that late & we've also found problems with the shooting. For example:
- One day, we had the Disco lights darker than the other day which showed up on our video.
- The day that Ed wasn't here, we didn't draw a wound on Andy after he had been stabbed but the last day of filming, we had a wound, which also can be figured out if someone payed close attention.
- Andy's eyes are further apart for a few scenes
- A lot of the framing doesn't look good on shot, so we've had to scale it which puts down the quality of the shot.
- A lot of the Jump Cuts don't match.
11th November
Today we recorded our Voice Over's & uploaded them onto the computer & put them into our project. We had the trouble of not being able to hear what we were saying over the music. Luckily, Ellie was here to help us out. We thought that the project would be completed & I hoped I'd never have to witness it again but Ellie would like us to reshoot one of the scenes (the scene with Andy's wound, making sure it's drawn on & the poo isn't actually in the shot) because of a Continuity error & because she didn't like the standing in Poo idea as it looked too much like plasticine I agree that it doesn't look right & would maybe like to correct it but I do not like working on this project anymore & that is what is putting me off the most. Maybe my view will change for tomorrow so Andy, Ed & I can just get the shot finished during lunch, uploaded & completely finished. So we'll be happy & so will Ellie.
